In 1981, after working at Opernhaus Zürich for seven years, Rita Schütz founded the "Künstlersekretariat Rita Schütz" with three exceptional artists: Agnes Baltsa, Francisco Araiza and José van Dam.

In the years that followed, Robert Wilford, CEO of Columbia Artists Management New York, was looking for a European base, and together with Rita Schütz he founded "Columbia Artists Management Zürich". When the partnership ended amicably in 1988, the agency continued independently as "Artists Management Zürich".

Over four decades, Rita Schütz worked alongside many of the defining figures of the opera world, among them Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, Sir Georg Solti, Luciano Pavarotti and Jean-Pierre Ponnelle, and became one of the most respected artist managers in Europe.

Louis Chanson joined the agency in 2018, after studying music and art history and working at the Opernhaus Zürich.
In 2026, he took over the direction of the agency. Rita Schütz remains closely associated with the agency, and her experience continues to shape its work. Looking forward, AMZ combines forty years of tradition with the perspective of a new generation, while staying true to its founding principle: careers built with passion, care and a long-term vision.
